Group coaching sessions: Every Monday and Wednesday evening
League Report 13 March 2020
Opening Comments We are entering dark and seemingly dangerous times. The raging Coronavirus is spreading like wildfire around the globe but...
“I came back to Table Tennis after a chance conversation with a friend who played at TTTA. I was immediately impressed with the whole set up, how welcoming the group were and how much hard work Kris, Jo and all the table tennis coaching team put in to help us all develop. I feel very proud to be part of such a great club.”
Torbay Table Tennis Academy Coaching
Our club members are trained by passionate and dedicated table tennis coaches Kris and Jo (both UKCC Level 3) who have over 20 years of playing and coaching experience.
They are backed up by ‘sparring partner’ Toma, who played table tennis internationally, and is invaluable in helping our young England players and offering table tennis tips to the performance team.
The club also has three Level 1 table tennis tutors and five assistant tutors for the junior section. We are one of the biggest table tennis clubs in England.
We have access to great facilities at Torbay Academy in Torquay. There are over twenty new tables at our disposal, with table tennis robots and multi-ball drills. Fun and fitness for all ages!
Table Tennis Coaching
Every Monday and Wednesday evening.
Mini TT Club – ‘TT Kidz’
5pm-6.30pm Mondays and Wednesdays – £6 per session.
A great way to introduce young players aged 5 to 8 to table tennis lessons by playing games and having fun with our coaches. Each table tennis coaching session involves rallies with a coach, practice using a ball-feeding machine, introduction to serving, basic movement around the table and lots of encouragement.
Each session is delivered in a fun and friendly atmosphere, but also in a well organised and disciplined manner to help keep the players focused for the whole session.
We believe that an early start helps kids acquire essential skills for the future (whether they decide to play just for fun, or compete at a championship level): team and systematic working, coping with stress and keeping calm under pressure.
Beginners and intermediate juniors
5pm-6.30pm Mondays and Wednesdays £6 per session.
Beginners and intermediate juniors table tennis coaching is open to students aged 8 to 16 who wish to master their table tennis ability, have fun and do an after school activity. Players can choose between train and play for fun only, or train and play to take part in competitions.
We want our juniors to be the best they can, making sport a way of preparing them for the rigours of life Our training sessions are designed to be fun, but also teach the rules and technique of table tennis and get the players to be confident serving and with forehands, backhands and scoring.
Intermediate adult and league players
6.45pm-8.15pm Mondays and Wednesdays £6 per session.
The group session is run by a head coach and three to four tutors. Players are split into groups depending on level and ability and needs.
The table tennis coaching session is structured for the first hour, with drills and practices, and and overseen by our head coach. After the drills there are open sessions where competition comes into play. ‘Top Table’ is where all players have a single competitive game and move up towards the top table if they consistently beat their opponents. Coaches quite often join in to allow competitive practice against them.
Private one-on-one coaching lessons on Tuesdays !!!
Lesson cost is £30 per hour – please contact to book.
More intensive table tennis coaching is available from our top table tennis tutors, Jo and Kris Piwowar, who are always ready to share their knowledge and experiences with you.
Table tennis lessons are great for fitness
Training sessions offer entertainment, good cardiovascular exercise and all aspects of health benefits (the risk of injury is low) to players of all ages and different fitness levels.
Our UK Club Is Our Family
Table tennis is a great way to bond with other people. Because young and older people play the game, it helps improve communication and build relationships, irrespective of age.
Torbay Table Tennis Academy
Our league teams
Torbay Table Tennis Academy has seven league teams of all ages and abilities. We play in the South Devon and Torbay Table Tennis league. The league is very friendly and competitive with matches played on week nights from September to June.
We are extremely lucky to have six qualified coaches at UKCC Level 3 to Level 1, and five assistant coaches for the junior sessions. Each week we provide four coaching sessions and a match night to help everyone progress. Individual coaching is available from our top coaches at modest cost.
The club has two junior UK internationals, Jakub and Kacper Piwowar. Jakub is England U13 number one and has been selected to the top European squad in 2020. Kacper is England U10 national champion and hard on Jakub’s heels!
Want to Join The Academy?
We are always looking for new table tennis members of all ages. Our club is extremely friendly. Whether you’re thinking of returning to table tennis after a few years, wanting to start a new sport to get fit, or moving clubs, please get in touch or come along to one of sessions.
Adult social group
6.45pm-8.15pm Mondays and Wednesdays £6 per session.
These sessions are dedicated to having fun and enjoying the sport in the company of like-minded members. It’s the ideal starting point for people wishing to take up table tennis, or return to table tennis after a number of years.
Each session is supervised by a table tennis coach who will only offer views or skills advice if requested. The aim is to progress and maximise playing time with a non-intensive or competitive atmosphere. We offer table tennis in a friendly and enjoyable way for everyone and look forward to welcoming you.
